Frequently Asked Questions

(FAQs)

What should I wear? Do I have to be naked in the sauna?

We ask that all guests wear swimwear during their sauna session. We recommend avoiding metal fastenings (they can heat up and cause discomfort), and please remove jewellery for safety.

What should I bring with me?

You’ll need:

  • Swimwear (no metal fasteners)

  • Two towels (one to sit on, one to dry off)

  • Drinking water (no glass or metal bottles)

  • Weather-appropriate clothing or robe for after sauna
Footwear for the walk from car park to sauna (grassy hill  ~50 m)

What happens during a sauna session?

  • On arrival, please park in the stone car park.

  • There are no staff on site, so make sure to follow the instructions carefully.

  • Bring everything you need for your session and then walk about 50m up the grass hill to reach the sauna.

  • The sauna has one seating tier and fits up to six people comfortably — please take care around the hot stove area.

  • Sauna use is alternated with cooling down, resting, and rehydrating.

    • For beginners: 3–5 minutes at a time
For more experienced users: up to 15 minutes per round

  • You can cool down in a couple of ways:

    • Outdoors in fresh air
Cold-water shower (non-private) or outdoor bucket rinse

  • You may repeat the heat–cooling cycle as time allows (within your booking slot).

Do I stay in the sauna the whole time?

No. We recommend alternating between time in the sauna and time cooling & resting.

  • Beginners: shorter rounds (up to ~5 mins)

  • Experienced users: up to ~15 mins

    • Always listen to your body and go with what feels comfortable.

Do you have lockers?

No but just outside the sauna area there is a small porch to leave towels and belongings.

Can children use the sauna?

  • Minimum age: 16, when accompanied by an adult

  • 18 if attending alone

Can I add water to the sauna heater?

Yes - you’re welcome to pour a small amount of water onto the hot stones to create gentle steam and increase the humidity in the sauna. This soft, moist heat - known as löyly - is an important part of a traditional sauna experience.

How to do it safely:

  • Use the wooden ladle and bucket provided beside the stove.

  • Pour a small ladle of water (about half a cup) slowly over the centre of the stones.
Step back slightly — the steam will rise quickly and fill the sauna with soothing heat.

  • Wait a minute or two before adding more water if you’d like additional steam.

  • Please only use clean water — do not add essential oils or fragrances, as these can damage the heater.

  • Never rest the ladle on the stove, as it will become extremely hot.

Take your time, experiment gently, and enjoy the calm rhythm of heat and steam — it’s one of the simplest and most relaxing parts of the sauna experience.

What should I do if there’s a problem with the sauna or it feels too cold?
